We Care About You

I prepared for my first child by organizing little stacks of color-coordinated sleepers and blankets, pre-washed in fragrance-free baby soap. There were baby nail clippers and syrup of ipecac in the bathroom. I was ready for motherhood. Then I brought my baby home. Everything was soaked through and in disarray the very first night.
But the truly rude awakening of motherhood wasn’t my child’s ear-piercing midnight cries; it was facing the fact that I didn’t have all the answers. My biggest dilemma was how to provide for my kids in ways I was never provided for as a child. There are areas of my life on which I have no place to draw from experience in providing for my family – and there is no “autopilot.”
You plan for the best, but have no real idea what life will look like when the rubber hits the road.
